ABOUT THE PROFESSION

Such specialists are especially in demand at enterprises engaged in the extraction of mineral raw materials, mechanical engineering, and chemical industry, where there are risks of dangerous environmental impacts, as well as risks to the health of employees and industrial facilities. Companies create integrated management systems that combine these areas of security. This allows minimizing risks and ensuring efficient operation of enterprises, safe for both personnel and the environment.

HSE specialist is also in demand as an expert in state environmental control bodies, design and consulting companies.

BENEFITS OF THE PROGRAM

Best international management practices

The program was developed based on the experience of the world’s leading universities: we have analyzed the most popular programs of universities in industrialized countries, as well as the requirements of international management standards in the field of industrial and environmental safety, labor protection, in order to select the most important issues to study.

The program was elaborated in cooperation with enterprises and organizations of the raw materials complex, design and consulting companies. This is the first program of such kind in Russia.

Best practices of design and management expertise

Major disciplines will help you form the necessary professional competences in a range of areas: reducing occupational risks, environmental issues and industrial safety. The courses are based on the experience of the teachers who cooperate with companies in the oil and gas industry, carry out environmental expertise of field development projects, do scientific research in the field of environmental pollution elimination, develop environmental standards, monitor environment, create environmental management systems and ensure occupational safety.

Technological practices in leading companies and government agencies

Partnership contacts of the Institute of Ecology made it possible to provide students of the program with the opportunity of technological practices in leading companies of the oil and gas complex, in companies manufacturing environmental protection equipment, consulting companies, design organizations, government agencies (Rosprirodnadzor, Rospotrebnadzor), and leading professional communities.

Scholarship programs

Students have a chance to receive scholarship support from Russian foundations — the Potanin Foundation, the V.I. Vernadsky Non-Governmental Environmental Foundation, etc. Students take part in international and all-Russian competitions of scientific papers and startups.

Environmental monitoring for everyone

Students have an opportunity to learn the basics of environmental monitoring in practice and master modern methods of environmental monitoring using the example of RUDN campus. Monitoring activities are an important part of ensuring environmental safety of enterprises, therefore, participation in the university monitoring program allows obtaining the necessary professional competences.

Virtual immersion in an emergency situation

The program uses cutting-edge learning technologies with immersion in a professional environment — a virtual environmental safety simulator that allows simulating an accident and eliminating it.

Study together with the whole world

The program employs massive open online courses in English on key issues of environmental safety and efficient use of resources, which allows brushing up a foreign language in addition to professional knowledge.

Getting to know the leading experts

Attend and enjoy lectures and master classes by leading Russian experts in the field of industrial and environmental safety, labor protection, participate in joint creative projects and conferences.

International scientific events

Students of the program have an opportunity to present research results at international events held at RUDN University: the international conference “Current problems of Ecology and Nature Management”, the annual UI GreenMetric round table, round tables on greenhouse gas emissions management, as well as a series of summer schools of RUDN Institute of Ecology.

Professional recognition

R&D products that form the basis of the program have been awarded the National Environmental Prize, the EcoMir National Environmental Prize, the Vernadsky National Environmental Prize, and the First Prize of the Moscow Government in the field of environmental protection.

PRACTICAL TRAINING AND INTERNSHIPS

Practical training in the study process

Practical classes are conducted using modern tools for engineering and environmental calculations and assessment of occupational and industrial safety risks.

Laboratory classes on “Ecological and analytical methods in occupational safety, safety rules and environmental protection” are conducted at RUDN unique laboratory base.

Students have good language practice — the results of their research are demonstrated in foreign language publications and at international scientific and technical events. Internships in international consulting and design companies involve working with foreign literary sources and international standards in the field of occupational safety, industrial and environmental safety. Good language training allows successful coping with these tasks.

Practical training and internship venues

Students undergo internships at partner universities in Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, and Italy. Participation of the Institute of Ecology in international professional associations Ui GreenMetric, ABROAD, IH, IH, IPIECA, etc. allows choosing the optimal internship venue, taking into account scientific and pragmatic interests.
